2009 Spring NS Attendee |
Ok, so I am going February 17 - 22, and I have a few questions.
What time do you get up/go to sleep? What do you do on a typical day? How much free time do you have? How many people go to each session? What kind of clothes do people wear there? Should I bring a laptop? Thanks! |

for waking up all that really matters is that breakfast is generally served from 640-740 so however long it takes you to get ready you have to get up for that
and security check is when you have to be in your rooms which is 11pm theres really not any freetime and the only time you would use your laptop would be at night in your room other than that theres no use for them also you can find sample schedules online and in one of the packets mailed home it tells you when you dress up or down they also provide breakfast and dinner. The breakfast we had was there was always cereal and potatos and the rest varied. The dinners for example we had a taco night, fried chicken, different kinds of pasta and mac n cheese, um there was also i believe like a stir fry type thing. Theres always salad and a dessert. I hope that helped some! |

The food was okay but i was a really picky eater so i didn't like it too much. But the breakfast was a lot better than the dinners. Sometimes your faculty advisor will give you a heads up if its something thats probably not going to be too good so you can eat more for lunch when your out.

as far as i've heard, the wieght room is off-limits to us. That'd probably be a good question to call the number they gave us for.

You are going to be very busy all day. There is very limited free time. You will do lots and lots walking. Great way to keep in shape. No there isn't really time to work out and you will likely be very busy with your new friends, preparing for the next day's events etc that you will find it isn't compatible with the day. By the time you get a shower (either night time or day time) and don't forget you have 2-3 other people in your shared space... So you now how ladies need to get their hair and makeup done. So with an 11pm security check and Breakfast at 6:30am.... Plus either getting ready your nice clothes in the night and yourself in the morning... You are looking at 4-6 hrs of sleep daily. See..... And you are going to be both excited and exhausted so that 4-6hrs will really be necessary.

You can probably get a mild workout before bed in your hotel room. Bring a resistance band and a mat, and make a routine.
A good series of stretches, pushups, situps, leg-lifts, etc right before bed would be a great way to end the day. ~For once you have tasted flight, you will walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward. |

What time do you get up/go to sleep?
Curfew and security checks are at 11pm. No one can leave there room after that time. Halls are monitored in the evening for your safety. But the actual time you sleep is up to you. What do you do on a typical day? Some learning, lots of fun, lots of walking... How much free time do you have? Little to none. How many people go to each session? 400-600 What kind of clothes do people wear there? professional most of the time. the some casual. Should I bring a laptop? you can. there is wifi.... |

WOW 400 to 600 people that is a lot!!! Are you going to be put in groups or something??? because there is no way they can keep up with 500 teenagers running around with out separating them somehow.

Definitely no free time haha. maybe on the first day when everyone is getting there at different times! but that's about it. You won't need to work out when you're there because all you do is walk, dance, and basically everything. You are up from 6am-11pm constantly moving.
There's only one thing I have to say... NYLF will probably be the coolest thing you'll ever do in your entire life. Go there with an open mind and open heart and you will meet the most amazing and intelligent people, and share your great experiences with them! I went in Oct. 2008 and I still regularly talk to at least 20 people I met there! :] It's awesome! |
