I'll be frank here. While I may be bright, I'm not particularly an exemplary student. I'm also not in any capacity associated with politics at my school. I'm not on the debate team nor the student government and I have never expressed interest in, or even HEARD of NYLF before. So I want to know- how the heck did they find out about me?

I'm not sure but I think my letter said they found me through the college center or some group like that who got all my info after I took my PSAT.

Same here.... I couldn't even think that I would be nominated...but I am. Just an average student below the highly academic ones (Not saying I don't make As and Bs)...yet, why was I chosen?

You can be nominated by a teacher or an alumni. I was told who nominated me in one of the letters they sent. I am an alumni and about ready to nominate a few people and they put my name at the bottom of the paper. So regardless of who nominated you,you should be getting a paper that tells you who. AS far as being chosen, they are usually looking for a well rounded person. Not only someone that does pretty well in school but also people with potential leadership skills.

so it would be logical to say that i was chosen because i am an little above average student and i was in the Duke TIP program which had me take the PSAT when i in 7th grade and because i sent a college survey through ROTC?

i know that i got nominated by one of the guys my dad works with over in the albanian ministry of defense. frankly, i like the concept of national security, but this crap about leadership is the same whether its boy scouts or nslc (national student leadership confernce) or some stupid marine thing thats trying to drum up recruits who have no direction to go in.

When I got my letter, it told me that I was chosen through a volontary college survey I took. I don't even remember taking it.
