umm......im not an alumni, but, im a girl. haha, cropped pants are like capri pants but a little bit longer. capri pants are cut off below the knee, and cropped are cut off around the ankle, but a bit higher than the ankle. that was quite random, haha.
This has nothing to do with this post, but I'm not sure how to ask a question otherwise.. Okay, I have been invited to the NYLF/DID in the spring 2006. I've never been interested in persuing Defence, intelligence, or diplomacy. I dont know how/why I was nominated, because I have never showed any interest in working for the government or anything, so at first I wasn't going to go this spring. But I just got another letter urging me to go and was talking to my friend who went to the NYLC earlier this year who said it was a great experience. I'm just wondering if it would be worth going even though I'm not interested in the topic. Thanks in advance for any help! :-)
You will probably want to talk to a Staff member but I'm sure you can change to one of the other Forums (Med, Law, Tech, Nursing). NYLF DID was certainly a great experience, though.

I'm thinking about going, and I'd like more information. Specifically:
Is this just going to be a big recruiting session for the armed forces? I'm a policy wonk, would I fit in?
In a lot of youth-oriented world issues activities, diplomacy and good sense are left by the wayside. Are people level-headed, or is this just a big war rally (I'm not exactly a Dennis Kucinich peacenik, but I think the military should be a last resort and I'm strongly against the Iraq War, would I be alone in this?)
I'm not really one to do something just because it looks nice on a transcript to get into college, but is this thing really worth missing a bunch of school in terms of helping me out in the future? This forum presents itself as highly prestigious, but from what I can tell, they just let anybody in who can afford the $1,200 to get there (they say they consider even people who weren't nominated [I think they got my name from College Board, because I don't know who would have nominated me] and don't meet the [modest] GPA requirement).
Eh... dress code? I don't mind wearing nice clothes, but it seems pretty pretentious. Is it a sign of weirness to come in the forum?
I hope it doesn't seem like I'm attacking anybody, because I'm not trying to, I just don't want to spend so much money to do something stupid. Answers to these questions would be very much appreciated.
