2009 Med Attendee |
I just got back from the trip at University of Maryland and I have some advice for anyone that is going later.
1) Buy moleskin at the pharmacy (girls). It works great as protection from blisters. 2) Be prepared to walk a lot. I know it said that in the packet thing, but seriously.....probably 3-6 miles a day, often uphill on campus in dress clothes an hot weather. 3) it says bring 4-5 professional outfits an 4-5 relaxed professional outfits or something like that, bring closer to 6-7 of each. We rarely wore casual. 4)You only need 5 or 6 casual outfits, and for 3 of them, you only wear them for like 2 hours, so don;t overpack with those. 5) Bring shower shoes 6) Bring a good extra blanket or two. They give you sheets and an extremely think blanket (its like another sheet) and the rooms get really col at night 7) Bring a lot of snacks. No joke. The food is pretty bad, and you eat dinner right at 5. Most days you are having MED sessions (group meetings) until 10:30 PM or later...and you will be hungry. 8) Bring hand soap and extra towels-- soap for the sinks are not provided 9) Bring a small the can for the room, or a good bag-- there are no trash cans in the dorm. 10) iPod speakers-- they a REALLY useful and almost no one brought them 11) A non-educational form of entertainment. I brought a whole bunch of books from my summer reading list, but when you get fee time you are just never in the mood because you are exhausted. 12) You will not see a TV for the 10 days you are there-- just so you know. 13) If you want to use the internet while there, just go to the McKeldin Library; they have computers all set up that you can use without signing in to anything. 14) If you bring a laptop, you will not have internet. To get onto the school's wifi you have to have a username and password, which we were not allowed to have. So reconsidering bringing a laptop if thats all you planned on using it for. 15) Bring bandaids, advil, etc.. 16) Bring hangers 17) Only pack what you czn carry-- even if you have a parent that can help you when you get there, on the last day you have to move all of your luggage at 6 AM down the stairs of you dorm (no elevator, kids) and to the opposite side of campus which is probably 1.5/2 miles uphill. So all you small girls, you may want to do a trial run to make sure that you can carry everything for a long time. I think thats it! Anyone else who went, feel free to add |

OH! And contradicting what everyone has said here, I got there and found out that all socials and dances are mandatory. So don't plan on using that as extra time.

hi ekrupp_2011
1) depends on your MED group 2) they like you walking... 3) you have showers in your rooms, only 1 for 4...depending n your room 4) depends on where you are, nothing to worry about 5) you should to carry your med journals 6) you have time after security check, but go to sleep hahah, there is down time if your FA lets you out early 7) the library is a good 5 minute walk |
