The packet says specifically not to bring a laptop, but I'm bringing iPod, cell phone, book, etc. Umm, bring hangers because they aren't provided. Also snacks will be helpful

At my session maybe 10 to 20 people at the most brought laptops. For some people they are really useful. If you are working on a project or need to have it for a deadline or something, I would bring it just because you don't know when the ones at the place your staying will be open. If you just want to have one, think of all the extra hinderances they bring up. If you are flying, that's an extra bag. You ahve to be careful that you don't leave it somewhere, even in your room in case room service steals it,and be sure that if you take it out of your room, you will have a chance to put it back because NYLF has strict regulations about when you can be let loose. I didn't bring mine and even though it would have been cool and fun to show it off, I am glad I didn't have to worry about it.

Oh, and I think why their is a discrepancy about whether or not you can bring a laptop is where you are staying. I think hotels and some dorms are allowed while others are not.

laptops were allowed with us. internet, however, was next to impossible to get in our dorms.
they say it isn't recommended to bring laptops because they might be stolen.
hangers were provided at my dorm.

Same mostly with us except we didn't have dorms, so no hangers, luck though in my book
