Yeah! I finally see someone who is also going during seesion 1! I hope to meet you there! ^.^

The definition of a string quartet:
    A good violinist...
    A bad violinist...
    A would-be violinist...
And someone who hates the violin.
All getting together to complain about composers.

What is the difference between a violin and a viola?
There is no difference. The violin just looks smaller because the violinist's head is so much bigger.

You are going to Houston right?

I'm Melanie. I'm a sophomore, what grade are you in?
I put a picture in when I made my account. You can probably put a picture in by accessing your profile and then editing it. Thenm you go to your avatar and either upload a picture or pick one that they have for you. I uploaded.

    What city are you from?

Yes, I am going to Houston.
    I'm a freshman. I hope we
meet up with each other there.
You are the only person I
    know in this whole online
    community who's going to Houston
    session one.

BTW, this is my first time going
to the states. I'm soooo nervous!

All I can guarantee is that it will be HOT HOT HOT in the summer.
Ditto about the Houston trip...but I bet that there are other people, but they just havent signed up for the forums yet.
I looked at your profile and it said that you were form Guam. Isn't that near-ish Japan? Correct me if I'm wrong.
How long will your flight be? ugh...I can't even imagine...
Soooo....do you like movies, or books? hobbies?
I love reading and watching movies...I'm actually kinda a nerd (REALLY a nerd) when it comes to stuff like that. ^.^

You can say that, but a more accurate
description would be that it's right
    above Australia.
My mom and I are still making our flight
plan, and one flight said 22 hours (2 stops).
I don't think I've ever been on a plane for
    more than 3!
    I love movies, especially inspirational
ones. I watched Seven Pounds sometime
ago, and I loved it. Well, except at the
end. What's so ironic about my nomination
is that I can barely stand watching dis-
gusting things happen. Just recently, we
watched a movie called Alive, and I CRIED
when it was showing all their plane crash
    injuries.
(Sorry if I'm boring you. Like I sad before,
you're the only one I've met so far.)
Anyways, I'm kind of a nerd too. If I hadn't
joined volleyball, I would be a HUGE nerd.
I volunteered at the local library over the summer,
and all I did was read. They were old books mostly,
and I can't read any new books because the
    library is closed for rennovation.
Now tell me about you. What do you like? Do you
play sports? What school do you go to?

No, not at all. I'm excited to know something about the person who I'll be going with on this trip. Still, I think that it is REALLY cool that you live off-continent.
Glad that you are a nerd though, I was dreading that I would be the weirdest child there and everyone would avoid me...^.^

Same here, by the way...I LOVE suspense movies and thrillers, but the gore and ickyness freaks me out. Bleh. I really love the movies with lots of special effects, like Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Pirates of the Carribbean.

Like I said, I ADORE reading. But...ahem...I have a secret vice of also liking manga and anime. It's just an obsessive hobby of mine. I LOVE cartoons and movies, basically.

I swim a lot as well, but I'm not on our swim team because MY way of swimming is better than THEIR (in my very egotistical opinion) and I would get disqualifies for not using proper tequnique probably. But I DO love biking and the outdoors in general.

I go to a pretty big school (Lee's Summit North). There are about 2000 kids at our school and thats grades 9-12.

So, how big is your school? And what do YOU like doing? I fell bad because I'm blabbering on and on about myself in this forum.... *.*

    hehehe....NEMO! >(*.*)<

    We could be GREAT friends.
    The movies you mentioned
were EXACTLY the type I used
to like. Well, I still do, but
    inspirational movies top the list.

It's also cool how you like swimming!
I'm trying out for paddling this year,
and it's so much fun. I never thought
I'd like a water sport so much (:

A lot of people at my school like anime.
And yes, my school's pretty large. We
    have 1800 students, grade 9-12. It's
called Simon Sanchez High School. Guam
onyl has like 4-5 public high schools,
    so they're all pretty big.

Anyways, I really like volleyball. I play
this position called a LIBERO, and all I
did was pass the ball. I guess I was put in
that position because I'm not much of a hitter
or a blocker, haha. (But I was a pretty decent
    libero.)

My favorite song at the moment is Halo by Beyonce.
I love her (; I also love the band Relient K
(heard of them?). What's your musical preference? Favorite song? Genre?

Wow. Your school is big too.
I like almost ANYTHING with music except for harcore country and rap. Everything else is great with me. Most of the time I liike the really pretty songs, the ones with good melodies and singers. But I also like funny songs.
I don't really have a favortie band, but I'll listen to basically anything.

What exactly is paddling? Do you get in a boat or something and paddle? ^.^

I'm kinda nervous about this trip though, because it's for medicine. And though I want to become a doctor, I don't know much about medicine in general. (That's why I'm going; so I can learn)

^.^ I'm also scared because of the people there. What if really WEIRD people show up? *.*
I know that is a stupid fear, (and I know you'll be there, so its fine) but what if they are really smart people who know everything already? ugh. that would not be cool.

But its REALLy nice knowing someone who's going to be there. It makes me feel a lot better.

So. what is YOUr favorite book/movie/series/TV show?
Recently I've gotten addicted to , yes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's not even that GREAT of a series, but its like crack for the mind. I cant stop watching it!!! XD But it Is a good show for watching while I do homework.

    Haha, your definition of paddling
is correct. But paddling and kayaking
are different (I used to think they
were the same.) The paddle has only
one blade in paddling, but two for kayaking.

We have so much of the same feelings about
the forum! Well, except for your fear of
really weird people showing up. What do you
mean by weird? Like, psycho killers? Or just
    really different people?

I want to be a doctor, but like I said before,
I'm really grossed out by all the yucky surgical
stuff and serious injuries. I really hope we can
be roommates or something! (knock on wood)

Well, I love most of the shows on USA, like
Monk, Psych, Burn Notice, etc. I used to watch
House a lot. I think I did that to help me get
over my attitude about medicine, but it didn't
help any. I also like The Closer and Leverage.
I guess you can say that I really like crime
    series.

My favorite book is this old novel by Philip
Pullman called Ruby in the Smoke. I also like
its sequel Shadow in the North. There is a
third book, but the libraries here don't have
    it.

I'm fond of almost all genres of music, except
heavy metal. My friend and I like rapping, and
we're planning to make our own music video for
Where is the Love. Now we're trying to memorize
Live Your Life by TI and Rihanna.

I think I said this already, but I hope we're rommates.
Oh, I did say it before. Sorry. =]

glad more people are turning up (:

ooooooooooooh! That's good to know. I was scared that we were gonna be the only people there! (That would never actually HAPPEN...but...)
I asked my friend at school about the Forum (he went to Chcago last year on one of the trips). He said that in HIS group, there were, like, 400 other kids. So, Im THINKING that either Chicago is a LOT more popular or that we'll definitely have a lot of other people there.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be roomates with you! I wonder if there is someone we can e-amil to ask about it. I'll look around the site ti see. It would be sososososo much fun.

ugh though. It;s snowing outside. This would be good usually, but YESTERDAY it was 50 degrees outside. I live in the epitome of bipolar (aha) weather. Now its COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD! X(

    But thats fine.
So, isn't Phillip Pullman the guy who wrother the "HIs Dark MAterials" series? I LOVE him as an author. Maybe I'll check out that book. It looks interesting.
Have you read anybooks by Isabelle Allende? She wrothe City of the Beasts. I think that you would like that book a whole lot (and its sequels are AMAZING).

And yeah, I want to be a doctor too, but its more of the risk of hurting hte patient in surgeries that I'm scared of. I THINK that over time I would get used to the blood and guts, but that potential risk would scare me. This trip will probably help me though. ^.^

What's the climate like where you live? (Sorry, I keep going off on random subjects and questions *.*)

I am sweating! The weather here is constant and
    relentless. It's always about 80 degrees (F).
I wish we could trade locations for a while.
It's so hot, and I'm sick and tired of it Wink
I'd love having it 50 degrees outside.

No, I've never heard of Isabelle Allende. Her
    books sound intriguing though.

Well, in the packet, it said there's no reservations
and that we can't pick our roommates. But if
we are, we'd probably stay up talking every
    night, haha.

    yeah...
But you would NOT want to trade places with me. 50 degrees? !? HA! Nope. Its around 5 degrees outside. 80 sounds like HEAVEN for me.

Awwwwww, that's too bad. I guess that they are trying to help us along the path to make more friends.

But also, I'm nervous about actually getting picked up by the forum once we are there. After you get off your flight in Houston, do you look for someone holding up a sign, or do you go to a rendevous point that had been specified? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Maybe they'll send something that tells us later on. What do you think?

Well, the packet said to look for them
in the baggage claim in terminal C if
I get off at IAH. They said they'll
    be wearing NYLF t-shirts. (I hope I don't
    get lost or anything.)

Are you getting dropped off at an airport,
or is your ride dropping you straight to
the hotel? I researched the hotel, and the
rooms seem pretty nice. But then again, the
packet said 4 per room, and everyone will
get their own bed. In the pictures I saw
at the hotel's website, there were only two
beds. Oh well...we'll find out when we get
    there.

Haha, trust me; 80 deg. day in and day out
    gets tiring.

What are you going to pack for the forum?
    What's your professional attire? Dress?
Skirts? I have like 4 dresses, so I think
I'll just buy jackets/sweaters for each of
them, and an extra dress or two (for pro-
fessional). It's a good thing this forum
is during the summer because I don't have
anything to wear if it were winter.

where did it say that in the packet? I didnt see it anywhere. (Then again, I think that I'm being dropped off at the other airport, so I'll have to check again....ick....I'm scared I'll get lost too ^.^)

Oh, and I'm getting dropped off at the airport and then I THINK that I am supposed to take the shuttle.

Yeah, they said everyone would ge ttheir own bed, but then again; maybe they have a pll out sofa or something. I could deal with that. Hmmmm. The only thing that I;'m concerned about THERE is that someone will talk ALL night nonstop and then the rest of the room will be dead by morning. Probably wont happen thgouh.

I wonder if the hotels have a DVD player? I could bring movies for us to watch! That would be AWESOME!

On the subject of what to pack for the ofrum....I'm not TOO sure. I have a few nice blouses. 3 pairs of nice slacks. My mom was amazing and bought a pant suit set really cheap (though I;'m scared I'll look stupid). I also have 1 dress for the semi-casual. And then I have lots of tops that I'll mix and match with the slacks. And then of course the casual wear, where I wear by normal attire. (oooo, big word)

The only thing that I'm worried about is the shoes. I hae several nice dress shoes that are closed heel/toe yada yada...but they arent flat. They have maybe an inch heel on them for support. I dontintend on getting flats because thye hurt my feet, but I wonder if that'll be ok. Probably.

Oh! and what size are you? Because if we are approximately the same size, if you run out of clothes to wear, you can mix and match with som of mine. I range from a adult S to M depending on the clothes. If that's ok with you, of course.

hehe. Trust me. 30 degrees day in and day out gets REALLY tiring.... ^.^ (hehe!)

There's not a lot of places to
    go shopping for clothes here,
    especially for decent prices.
It would be totally amazing if
we could mix and match! Well,
my waist size is 30. I fit most
S* to M* blouses. 3 of my dresses
say medium*, so I'll stick to that.

Dress shoes that only cover my toes
hurt the toe area, especially when
I wear them for a long time. That's
why I plan to get these formal-
looking crocs. I own a pair of casual
    ones, and they're really comfortable.
My sister used to work as a hostess in
a restaurant, and she had the formal
crocs, and I never heard her complain (:
(That was quite redundant; lol )

The meeting places are on the BRING ON AR-
RIVAL DAY! card. It's on the bottom of the
    side with the mailing address.

And if I can, I'll somehow persuade my mom
to buy me a pant suit set so we can wear them
    on the same day =]

I can't wait! The thought of meeting you makes
    me so excited!

What DVDs are you planning to bring? If any-
thing, please don't bring super scary movies
or Harry Potter. But then again, its your
choice. It's just that I can't watch Harry
Potter, and the nightmares I get from scary
    movies last a while. =]

    *-Adult size, most likely

YES! I found it! Th bring on arrival day DOES tell you. Phew! I am an extremely relieved child right now. ^.^

Ummmmmm, I would probably bring about 4-ish. No scary ones (I dont own any lol) and I have seen Harry Potter WAAAAAY too many times to be legally healthy.
Possibly the movie Pride and Prejudice? I totally LOVE/ADORE/WORSHIP that movie. Have you heard of it? I have read the book too, and I know you would love the movie as well.
And do you like kung-fu movies? or action? I love action movies as long as they aren't TOO gruesome. I love the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That is my most favorite kung-fu movie of all time (I could bring that).
I also could bring Phantom of the Opera. Enough said. (EEEEEEEEEEEE! ^.^)
And anything else that randomly strikes my fancy.

you are approximately my size too! THis is great! I have NO IDEA...wait.....one sec.
My waist is about 28-ish inches, but I dont plan on bringing anything skin tight to the max, so it should be fine!
If we wore pant suits on the same day (AND sunglasses!) we could flank some kid and pretend to be super-stealthy ninja bodyguards! hahahaha!
