hey all, just wanted to point out a great book im reading

Statecraft: and how to restore Americas standing in the world, by Dennis Ross, is a great look at the flaws in the Bush administrations foreign policy, and it tells about how to approach diplomacy and such using statecraft, an idea which he explains greatly.
Ive only read like 20 pages, but it is really good. On the back, the former National Security Advisor (Snowcroft) says its "a book policymakersr or aspiring policymakers need to read" in a letter to president h.w. Bush

yeah bush is a great president...hes had to make some really hard and unpopular decisions but hes more concerned about protecting America, not polls..of course bush's foreign policy has some flaws, but its alot better than the foreign policys of clinton, who allowed al quieda to grow with little meaningful intervention..

ME too, its hard coming from a military family and watching your friends and family members being deployed but I also am proud of them and cant wait to follow in their footsteps. I like the Bush Administration, with Clinton we could have had Bin Laden but he passed up the oppurtunity. Although hes unpopular, hes doing the best to protect our country, even if it means deploying our troops into the Middle East. And personally, if you sign up for the military then you know what you're getting into, you know that there is a chance of you being deployed and that a war might occur. Personally, I see dying while protecting your country as honourable and I can not wait until I am old enough to join the military.

okay heres my stance, hate me or love me for it, this is it and ill stand by it:

As the book discusses, Bush completely went about his foreign policy wrong. He brought the "bring it on" cowboy stance that won his domestic support after 9/11 to the international scale, resulting in the hard line stance that lost the support of many potential allies in Europe and elsewhere.
Also, if Iraq was the smallest threat of the "Axis of Evil" (NK, Iran, Iraq), then why did we invade them, instead of the nuke-toting or Iran? ( i know some of you will point out China's ties to NK as reason).
Furthermore, the invasion was a disaster of planning. Without proper intelligence, logistics, and planning, or foresight after the fall of Saddam, the operation was bound to be troublesome. Had Bush used statecraft better, such using other, more clandestine forces, to spark revolutions to overthrow saddam, we could have avoided the over 3000 dead, or at least made it easier.
Without clear objectives of the post-saddam time period, the Bush administration rushed into this conflict, which had nothing to do with the right conflict, our hunt of the dirty Bin Laden.
And your assesment of the Clinton foreign policy is clouded. He spearheaded the peace-talks among Israel and Arafat's Palestine, which stopped the fighting for some years. He also helped put together the NATO coalition that resolved the crisis in Bosnia. Finally, Bin Laden wasnt a threat before 9/11, nobody wouldve thougt. He was an ally during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and lead the mujhadeen against our Cold War rival. Prior to 9/11, noone could have foreseen his sudden switch of alleigance

OKay, I have to give you props, you brought up some good arguments and I know we arent going to agree on everything and I really dont want to get in a fight over this but...

isnt everyone's opinion clouded? People see what they want to see whether it is true or not. As far as Clinton...Im pretty sure (correct me if Im wrong) that he made the economic bubble burst-throwing us into a stock-market crash. As for Iraq, I believe that since it is a smaller threat, it is a easier target, Im not saying nuke everyone and let them die...Im just saying that the easiest way of defeating terrorism is starting with the easiest and working your way up. Also, not all plans are foolproof-there is no way we could possibly predict every single battle, threat, or attack that would occur during this War on Terror...plans dont always go the way you planned them.
