I actually want to be a vet, not a human doctor...however, my options are always open and I love medicine in general, so maybe one day I will switch to human medicine (even though it's unlikely...but I've always thought genetics, neurosurgery and obstetrics have been interesting)

I am also interested in psychiatry and higher brain function. I am particularly interested in neurosurgery, because it enables you to technically perform surgeries all over the body (because, obviously, of the nervous system), but you get to have a specialization. I considered psychiatry, but quickly dismissed that after realizing that I would rather be in a hospital saving lives "manually" rather than living in an office writing prescriptions for a career. I thought for a while about anesthesiology...but then realized that I had no passion for that...no (corny as it sounds) "spark" or inspiration for the field. The human mind inspires me. Sorry this post is so long...I elaborate about my thoughts a lot!

Cardiology, I love the heart. My favourite organ by far and I just love learning about it's functions and how the nodes create a perfect synchronization of contractions of the atria and ventricles.. and surgery just makes me more interested, I'd either like to be a cardiosurgeon or orthopedic general surgeon. For general, I'd like to be a internist, just the general med. Diagnosis is the most important step in assessing a patient and sending them on the path to full recuperation.

I want to be a general internist, because I plan to join Doctors Without Borders (some of you might know it as Médecins Sans Frontières); a lotta people in this world need medical care but aren't getting it. If you like to help people, consider Doctors Without Borders; you can do so much good! Don't I sound all smug and righteous ...sorry. I don't mean to be

I agree with Agold, that is so awesome. I know about that too. For those who don't, they go to underpriveliged countries and give cheap/free (? help me out here Izzy!) to those in need. All volunteer based. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm actually looking for something similar to doctors without borders to volunteer with next summer. On the other hand, I don't know if such a thing exists, becuase i searched the doctors without borders thing, and you actually have to have a degree or whatever just to volunteer! anyone know of anything like this for highschool students to volunteer with? as in, going to a foreign country and providing medical care there... wow. this was long. back to the topic... i'd like to be a neonatologist/obgyn/pediatric..soemthing or another. i love babies/small children. =] forensic pathology also interests me. sorry this was so freakin' long!
