Hey all, I'm Robert. I'll be attending the 2nd session in Washington DC this coming June.

I just thought I'd start this discussion to see what peoples plans are in the medical field (medical school aspirations, type of physician/surgeon, etc.)

As for me, I'll be attending UC Davis next year as a freshmen in the Microbiology program and am going on a Navy ROTC scholarship. After college I hope to go to UC Davis Medical School (would love to go to Johns Hopkins Medical School) and then after residency serve my 8 years in Navy Medicine. All i know about what I want to do in medicine is that I want to be a surgeon; Im not sure what type as of yet.

Does anybody else have any future plans?

Hi Robert I am Matthew and I will be attending session one in D.C.

I will graduate high school in Spring 2010. After that I want to attend Duke University. I know that seems ridiculous, but oh well. After that I want to go to Medical School at either Duke or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I know that seems like a conflict of interests, but I have connections there, as I have been an oncology patient there. My overall goal is to become a pediatric oncologist.

Hey guys. I'm graduating in '09, and then I'll hopefully be accepted to the UW madison. I'm interested in radiology as well as plastic(not cosmetic) surgery, but I still have NO clue. The forum will be so great for finding the different med fields!!

I'm going to either be a Cardiovascular surgeon or an anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist.

Most likely the surgeon though!

I'm not that far planned out yet for colleges, but I want to go somewhere on the east coast (that doesn't narrow it down by much lol). but I want to be a surgeon because it is something that really interests me.

I wish I knew! All I know is that I'd like to go to college near Boston, or at least somewhere in New England, because I love that area and I know that there is a surplus of great schools there. However, I don't really know enough about medical schools to have an idea of where I'd like to go. And as for which specialty I would like, I have no idea! There are so many things I'm interested in that I find it almost impossible to decide! I'm hoping that NYLF will give me a little more insight.

Also, I found a very interesting online quiz to see what medical specialties best suit your personality here. You really have to take the results with a grain of salt (I can't see myself enjoying any of the things recommended to me), but it's fun to see what the quiz says!

Hey! I graduate in 2010, and as far as dreams go, i would love to go to Duke University and then on to John Hopkins and complete my residency somewhere in New York City. At first I was seriously considering a career as a heart surgeon, but now I believe I would rather obtain a career as a heart and/or lung specialist. =]

I graduate 2010. Even though that's a few years off from now, I'd love to be a neurosurgeon. It's so... interesting and fun to learn about. I hope to go to U of Rochester, in NY since it is relatively close to where I live. But as a backup, radiology also seems pretty cool. Other colleges are Cornell and even Dartmouth, but that's more of a dream college I guess.

I graduate in 2010, and am actually planning on going to Osmania University over in India, but if those plans don't work, then I'd LOVE to get into Johns Hopkins or Stanford... I know, really high aspirations, and I probably won't get in, but I guess there's always hope. There are always other schools that are just as good! Anyway, I think I might focus on neuro or cardio, but again, things change, so we'll see!

I would like to become a pediatric orthodontist. That way, I can help kids have a great smile. A great smile will help them gain more confidence in themselves. You don't really learn a lot about teeth in school...well, I didn't. I just know that you have to keep them healthy by brushing and flossing every night and stay away from unhealthy food or you'll get cavities. I just find it so interesting...=)

I am Brent Kisby and I am a freshman at Danville Area Senior High School. After High school, I plan to go to either American University, Boston College, Boston University, or UCLA for Microbiology and a minor in psychology. I plan to be a Trauma physician or a Orthopedic surgeon.

Hey, I'm Khanh and I'll be attending session three in DC.
I will graduate from high school in 2010. I am planning to apply (and hoping to get in) to Georgetown University, since my parents are dying for me to go there. I probably will study and have a career in internal medicine, just like my mother. I am hoping to start and finish my residency in the DC or NYC area. I will probably also study dermatology as my specialist.

P.S. - A lot of people wants to get into Duke University. Is that really a good university?

Hi! I'm Meleigh and I will be attending session 3 in Washington D.C.. I heard about a new program through Penn State that I am interested in, but since fifth grade I have wanted to go to George Washington University and then on to John Hopkins. My plan is to become an oncologist and my mom is really pushing for me to go into pediatric oncology but I am not sure about that yet.
