2008 Med Attendee |
Hey everybody sorry about the week where I just disappeared. I went out to Oregon for a week for the Olympic Trials with my family. Anyone flying out from the West Coast, I now feel your pain
*For everyone who's on me for being a Red Sox fan, don't hate. You know they're awesome. DENNY- I've got a sport coat, 2 suit, a blazer, some khakis, polos, fancy dress shoes, topsiders, some shorts for casual days, and a bathing suit. (NO idea how I'm getting it all from place to place without crushing myself.) So whose got plans for the 4th? I've really got nothing to do here, since I don't know anyone within 1000 miles! Last note- I was going through the Boston Airport yesterday, and they had signs up for the 2nd session throughout the airport. It was kind of funny to see. |

Chris...wow your all set. I better get things together. I heard they room by alphabet, my last name begins with B also.
Nicolette and Angelica... We still haven't made a final decision where in Mexico for spring break, but a lot of people want Riveria Maya. The travel agency told us high school spring breakers are not welcomed there unless you stay with family, so the next choice will prob be PV. Nicolette, what month did you go? Hopefully it wasn't in April lol Any suggestions? |

Angelica very cool...do u tumble?? yeah i am in sports i run in cross country and track! woohoo! lol
OMG yes i'm flying alone! i'm so EXCITED!! i've never flown alone before! i have to connect to another flight in detroit tho so i'm hoping that i won't miss that flight! cross your fingers! lol oh yeah and if u have aim my sn is mkarebear13 Samantha hmm actually now that i think about it there might be another summer concert thing they have *anyone who lives in ny help us out with the name of this one!* hehe i was thinking about volunteering at the children's hospital that would be an awesome experience! Melissa aww that's so cute! lol wow i had no idea that the phillipines finished school so early! haha i'm kinda worried about baggage stuff too! i'm so trying to figure out what to put into my carry on too-when i think i'll have everything ready i'll start making a checklist(i know i'm going to need one!) lol Niki r u serious!! that's so weird! well good call about changing ur outfit geez! lol ok so i might sound a little stupid here but is ur ex's name Ant or is that an abbreviation for something?? just wondering but that must have been really awkward! and thanks for the spirit booster on cross country i totally went on a run after that and felt so PUMPED!!! lol it was probably the first time in about 2 weeks that i went running 2 days in a row..progress! ok so i guess that there's no avoiding the pain in waterskiiing but i still want to do it! now i think i've got another idea for my summer plans!! YAYY!!! oh and i don't think we need to bring sheets and pillows it seems like we should just bring an extra blanket in case we get cold at night MaryRose whoa that is weird! it kinda hit me this morning that i'll be getting on a plane to boston in about 10 days!! and i'm not even fully ready on what i'm wearing! AHHHH!! STRESS! haha we should all like exchange phone numbers or something the day before we get ready to go so that we can meet each other the first day cuz we get to boston at different times-what do u think? oooh and when i do figure out what i'm for sure bringing i'll let u kno! Chris ok so wow i officially envy you! lol here i was watching the olympic trials on tv when what do you kno if i had taken a look into the audience i might have seen you! haha and u were so close to washington!! hehe oregon did so well in the trials so eugene was definitely a great place to host the trials especially for track! *sigh Nick Simmons* sorry just had to do that lol but for the summer olympics i only really pay attention to track and gymnastics. i think might go to vancouver though for the winter games! woot woot! hmm the 4th.... well mostly just a barbeque at a friends house then fireworks! i'm so excited! it's weird cuz yesterday was canada day so my family watched the fireworks for that on tv and now we're going to watch the fireworks for the 4th! talk about deja-vu! lol Denny sounds fun! well let's see at this point i've mostly been spending my time daydreaming about going to boston! lol but when i'm not doing that i've been going to the beach a lot and running! i love the summer... did u end up getting a summer job?? |

Karen i took about $250 with me and i had between $100-$110 after all the food we order and about walking, babson has big hills that we walked up and down every day like it's hard to explain but trim, reynolds, sorenson, maphill (one of the dorms), and all of the med session rooms were all on one level and to get to the other three dorms, coleman, van winkle, and mcculloch, you had to walk up a hill so i was in coleman so i had to walk up and down the hill like 3 or 4 times a day but i think flats would be comfortable to walk in...if they give you blisters just bring flip flops to walk around in, that's what i did
LRinaldi8 np...just let me know if you have anymore questions Nicolette don't freak out! you'll be fine! what you have sounds fine, you might just want to get like a suit jacket or just wear your more professional or dressy blouses on professional days and flats are fine, you don't need heels, but don't forget a bathing suit or a semi formal dress or outfit for the dinner cruise on the last day and about the sheets i brought my own, but you don't have to but some people didn't get sheets so you might want to bring some just in case and i would also highly recommend bringing a blanket because all the dorm rooms are freezing cold! my room was so cold for the first two nights, i couldn't sleep and a bunch of people ended up buying blankets from the bookstore and you also might want to bring a blanket or jacket with you to sorenson because that room is cold two Everyone also some reminders for everyone: girls, don't forget a semi formal dress or outfit for the cruise (i wore my homecoming dress from last year) because a lot of people ended up buying dresses in boston the day before the cruise! also for everyone, the dorm rooms are really cold so you might want to bring an extra blanket, but they do provide you with sheets, and you might want to take a blanket or jacket with you to sorenson because it gets pretty cold too about food i know you've probably heard a hundred times that you will be ordering out, but you will so whenever you get a chance go to reynolds and get take out menus and program take out numbers into your phone, that way on days when your rushed you can order at the end of your med session without having to look up numbers and find a restaurant bring at least a couple $5 bills because my friends and i normally ended up paying about that much for take out and we always had to figure out the change and also bring change for vending machines to get drinks if you want to use a computer, there are computers upstairs in reynolds that are free to use if you eat lunch in reynolds, it takes FOREVER...i'm not lying if you order out and you're trying to find a place to eat, go to the lounge in van winkle talk to everyone! my flight was delayed and i was 3 hours late, but i talked to the people on my late bus and even if they weren't in my group, i still talked to a couple of them throughout the week and the people i became friends with in my group are like my best friends also, some info on the dorms maphill-best and cleanest dorms-all girls (sorry guys) van winkle-co-ed-great lounge, anyone can go into the lounge coleman (my dorm! 213 baby!)-all girls mcculloch-worst and dirtiest dorms-all guys (once again, sorry guys) also, you can't leave your room after 11 (i got caught twice haha) even to use the bathroom or take a shower (but on the last day most FAs didn't really care, my friends snuck into my room and one spent the night) and guys can't be in the all girls dorms and vice versa, so don't get caught! don't throw stuff of the tops of buildings (it sounds stupid, but someone got kicked out for it) take lots of pictures and start taking them as soon as you get there meet people from other groups exchange numbers!! (even if you think it's awkward giving your number to some one, especially if it's because you think they're cute, DO IT ANYWAY!! you're never going to see them again so who cares!) i can't think of anything else right now, but if i do i'll tell ya'll, but if you have any questions feel free to ask me sorry this post was so long lol, but i hope i help! P.S. to anyone who's in curie group, curie is the best group ever and ashley is amazing!! |

Hey Laurendel...thanks for all the info to everyone. Hope you don't mind a few more questions... What do you think is a good site to sign up for? Is there drinks/snacks to get at night? how many people to a room? What was the best thing you did there? Thanks a lot for sharing ...ttyl

hey Angelica: So what do you recomend in mexico for spring break since you live so close? I basically like to play just about any sport for fun...especially golf, tennis baseball and soccor. I also played hockey for 11 or more years. I've entered some golf and tennis tounaments on some days off of work. besides sports theres always excitment with my friends.
Karen...I did end up getting the same job as last sumer, coaching t-ball and umping softball and baseball games. I also volunteer at the local hospital as a caring companion..good for the college application, plus I like it. |

2008 Med Attendee |
Karen I would love to volunteer in a children's hospital, we have the huge one right here across the river, but I heard it's REALLY hard to get into, and plus I don't feel like driving 50 minutes everytime I have to volunteer. And we'll figure out this name sooner or later, I'll ask my sister because she went last year.
MaryRose totally know what you mean about it not having hit you yet, I'm still not freaking out, and I know that in like 5 days I'll be running around my house trying to get everything together, lol. Angelica yay another person that has a myspace! lol. Everyone else on here has facebook, except for like 3 people, lol. And yeah, there aren't many 17 year olds here either, haha. Yeah, I'm excited, but like MaryRose said, it hasn't really hit me yet. Boston Session 3!!! |

Denny i don't mind the questions lol but about the sites,it all depends on the person but i'll tell you what i know about some sites:
i went to rhode island simulation center and there we got to work with the manequins like i got to insert a breathing tube in to a baby manequin and we also saw a hybrid pregnant manequin and a male adult manequin i heard that at lahey clinic you get to scrub in and watch a surgery i think i heard that at metro west you just walk around the whole hospital at city lab they did an experiment at beth israel, my friend shadowed a pulmonary specialist (but i think there were different specialists you could pick to follow) at newport hospital in rohode island, my friend got to shadow anyone in the emergency department and he saw a lumbar puncture, but he said it was really cool i don't know about any other ones but if i find out, i'll let you know about the drinks/snacks, we had socials at night except for the two days we had med session until ten thirty, the night of the variety show, and the two dances, but at the socials they provide chips, cookies, brownies, water, lemonade, and stuff like that, but at the dance after the beach on saturday they had pizza and we ate dinner on the cruise, so the only nights they didn't give us food were the two nights we got out of med session late and the night of the talent show about people to a room, it depends on what dorm you're in, if you're in mcculloch it's six people to a room, but i think you have like a common room and six single bedrooms, if you're in maphill it's four to a room and it's set up the same way as mcculloch, if you're in coleman it can be one, two, or three people to a room, and in van winkle i think it's only one or two people to a room and i thought the best thing we did there, medicine wise, was going on the site visits because they were all different and we all had a choice of where to go so hopefully everyone got something that was interesting to them and they got to learn about it, but i thought the most fun like social thing was definatly the cruise because everyone got to spend one last night with their friends and got to dance and have fun, and boston harbor was really pretty, it was lite up and we had planes flying over us right into logan so it was really cool and also there were fireworks, but apparently they just happened to be doing them that night so you guys might not get to see them, the only bad thing about the cruise was that the boat was really small, like the inside capacity was like 220 people and we had 440 and everytime the boat hit a wake we would like slide across the deck lol but i thought it was fun hope i helped! |

I'm a little nervous because I won't be going to the Boston airport to get to the forum, I'll be taking the train (yay! 6 hour train... not)... I'm super excited everyone... we'll definitely have an amazing session, it's during the All-Star game, there can be no wrong during the midsummer classic... lol. zoe- Do you mean your travel information? I never got an e-mail back, and I don't think it said you were supposed to.
This is really random, but does anyone who went already remember if Brigham and Women's hospital was one of the site visit options? And I was just looking at the sample schedule, and there's only one clinical site visit and one medical school visit? I thought I remember reading somewhere that we have two clinical visits and one medical school visit, so three total? ---------- XoX Boston MED Session 3, 2008 xOx my blog-> http://forums.studentdoctor.net/blog.php?u=188514 |
