I (my teacher) just wanted to know if there are high schools out there that have some type of club or program even any after school programs that have to do with some medical stuff?
sorry if that doesn't make that muh sense!

Like my school has a club, called med prep where we do a bunch of medical stuff.

By the way I placed to go to Nationals this year in medical photography but I am unable to go because of NYLF.

hmmmmm. what do you do in sports medicine??

In our club, we will be (actually, it is fairly new and will carry on into next year) doing awareness months and case studies, and once we do spread the word about this in the different school districts, we will do little competitions (just like the mock trial competitions), through out the area of York, PA. We will then also go to clinics and hospitals, including colleges nearby to handle the tools they use.

If you guys also have any ideas on what else we can do, that will help a lot!

ttyl,
Purnima Big Grin

Wow cmdapril you are so lucky! At my school, we dont even have a health occupations club or anything relatively close to it. But then again, I go to a small school. Being in a medical academy sounds like a lot of fun!

At my school we have Allied Health one and Allied Health two. Allied One covers the science aspect such as anatomy, body systems, medicine, etc. Allied two is all about patient care. It is a two block class(3 hrs.) Students go to the hospital to do clinicals and get checked off on skills. at the end of the program you can take the test and get your CNA license if you pass.

there is a discussion on here about sports medicine...we have class during school and an internship after school in the training roo where we give treatment and rehabilitation to athletes. in the classroom we learn about anatomy, bones, muscles, ligaments, injuries, treatment, rehabilitation..

we have state wide competitions. this year my school placed 7th out of 35 teams, my forum placed 1st out of 8, and i placed 3rd out of over 500 students...i love sports med! we took three 100 point written tests and an oral practical where we tape, assess, and perform various activities

Hey Matt Rollins,
Ohhh...so these are classes...okay! Sound awesome my school doesn't have this!!!
And what do you get to do with a CNA license? When the students do these skills is it like your practicing on a dummy, like CPR??

Hi Jessandacrouton,
Thats what we had before in my school. Actually I am pretty sure you don't have forensic science. Is anatomy and physiology a class or is it something else??

pmalik93: With a CNA you can get a job at most nursing homes. They practice on dummys to start with and on each other(pulse, blood pressure, feeding, bandaging, etc.) after that they work with patients at the hospital.(usually elderly who are somewhat unaware of what's going on anyway.)

By the way, the people in Allied Health two get to wear scrubs everyday. they are at the hospital for the first two blocks of the day so they come back to school in their scrubs.
