I think that should be fine merril. I have like 2 pairs of flats too I think.
And yeah, I think I'll only bring one pair of heels. I'm not good at walking in them really anyways haha.
And I think I'll bring regular tennis shoes too...

in Chicago, there are no exercise facilities for student use, but you can jog around campus if you have a note from your parents.

you basically do whatever you want. most nights they'll have some social event set up for you, but you don't have to go to it if you don't want to. last summer I went to D.C. &my group played frisbee on the football field a lot or I'd go up to the gym with some of the other guys &play basketball.

well idk if your dorms are air conditioned but Georgetown's were &by the middle of the night you're gonna wana blanket &sometimes a sweatshirt too.

definitely bring food. the food wasn't bad but it's good to be safe wtih some things you know you'll eat.

bring like cards or a frisbee, maybe even like a soccer ball or something that your group and/or the other friends you make can do together. &don'tttt be afraid to talk to people! I'm really shy &don't talk much, so the first few days I really didn't like the forum, but once I started talking I didn't want to leave.

The UIC dorms are Air Conditioned (it said in one of the booklets). It cant get that cold SmaLLs (can it?) b/c it'll be mid-summer.
How many roommates do we get 2? or 3?

how cold your room gets really depends on you &your roommate I guess. mine liked it really cold &it felt good until the middle of the night. then it was just too cold.

I had one roommate. at some place you have 2-3 roommates(if you're in a hotel). one of the guys in my group didn't actually have a roommate.

you can wear open toed shoes when you're not in a hospital or on a site visit, but for professional and relaxed professional, you can't wear flip-flops.

stina -- i think i'm going to bring "nicer" looking summer dresses and just wear like a cardigan or a shrug over it...

i thought of these clothes as if i was a lawyer or someone in court, whether or not i would wear it...
i said yes, than it's a yes...idk if that's a good way of thinking about it, but that's pretty much it. lol.

so my friend went to NYLF med chicago two years ago and i asked her through message about it and this is what she sent me...

"about the NYLF... i rly rly had a good time there, n i met a lot of ppl...what we basically did was when u get there u get assigned to groups that are kinda like ur "base group" n u get an instructer so u meet with ur group everyday and they let u know whats going on and what ur doing for each day. we had a lot of discussions on medical stuff like ethics and the process that goes through diagnosing a disease. also, we had debates in front of a panel of judges n u get assigned to a topic n u have to do like a mini research and present it... i visited the medical college of wisconsin, a nursing home, and a hospital to take a look at radiology. there were also a lot of presentations on different things like organ donation n drug use and other things. umm... we also got to suture a banana...lol... oh ya there was also a mini project that we did in groups n we competed with everyone else who went to NYLF. i remember our topic was AIDS and we had to present info on it and suggest a way to help ppl who have it. wow that was a lot of info.. i think that was most of it cuz i did it summer b4 junior yr so i mightve forgotten some little things.
ok now 4 like the dress and everything... i suggest that u do ALOT of shopping cuz waht i did was i brought 2 dress pants n alot of tops which was alright but i shouldve brougt more pants or skirts. there was also that casual dress thing which was kinda confusing but it was basically like kakis or jeans skirts with a nice top. there was alot of social "mingling" and things so it was rrrly fun... we went to six flags one day, we went to downtown for some shopping another day, and then the last day there was a dance... i suggest u bring a dress like for turnabout cuz i made the mistake of bringing a fancy top n i thought i was just gonna wear it w the pants but evryone ended up having dresses, so i just borrowed a skirt frm someone. so make sure u bring jeans n comfy clothes cuz u can just wear those at night or whenever u dont have to dress up...
wow... well thats all i can think of right now but ill def let u know if i think of sumthing else.. i think u should b very excited n ready to have a good time cuz it was fun..."

i hope that helps!
