First, let me start by saying that this was one of the most memorable weeks of my life. The people were great, the overall experience was one that, and I believe I speak for everyone else when i say this, I will never forget. Never a dull moment, always something to do (unfortunately beginning at about 6:30 every morning), and overall educating and enlightening. The simulation lived up to it's part as the climax of the week, and proved to be the best fun of the week, a culmination in all the briefings, speeches, trips, and meetings we endured during the week. I met people from all around the country, and this experience wouldn't have been what it was unless they were there. I don't think it would have been the same with anyone else. It was an honor and a priveledge to share this experience with the young men and women who attended the NYLF DID October 11-16 session. But now, onto the part of why I hated it, which I can sum up into four simple words: I Had To Leave. I don't know about anyone else, but I felt a sort of mild depression when the time came where people began boarding shuttles, hiring taxis, or riding home in parents cars. It is only 6:50 the same day I left, and already I miss the forum, and most especially, I miss the people. But it's over, so all I have to say was put quite nicely in one of the closing ceremony speeches, and I direct this to those who will be attending the forum in the next three weeks: "For those about to rock, we salute you."

There were many people who spoke to us. We had a lot of military officers from Coast Guard, Navy, Army, and Marines there (no Air Force officers came to visit). We also visited many different sites in which we spoke with those that worked there (Andrews Air Force Base, National Security Agency, National Geospacial Intelligence Agency, and many other agencies and organizations). This all depended on where you want to go and signed up for on this site.

MAKE SURE YOU LOG INTO THE SITE USING THE PASSWORD PROVIDED IN THE INFORMATION SENT TO YOU AND SET YOUR SITE PREFERENCES (WHERE YOU WANT TO GO) AT LEAST A WEEK IN ADVANCE!!! Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not doing this so my site visit was decided for me. I still went to awesome places even though I didn't decide.

This was still an awesome experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in this field. I will never forget this place and the people who I went with. It was well worth the price and I wouldn't have changed a single thing. This was a life changing experience that will surely reflect in me for the rest of my life!

Thanks for everything NYLF! If there are any questions, send an email to bhalik@rochesterca124.org and I'll be glad to answer any questions!

By the way, James group was the best. Because Matthew Johnson, the FANTASTIC FA, was just super. On the last day there was some defensive tactics training--Marine style.

But definitely the worst part of the week was the waking up early. And the fact that our alarm clock was haunted.

*Edit from Administrator: We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your experience and have positive things to say about your FA! However, for the privacy of your FA and all of our staff members, your images have been removed. Please feel free to post pictures of your friends and the sites you visited, but not pictures with staff members. Thanks!*

Umm no I'm definitely voting for the Marshall group with LILY!!! Why? 1- cause of Lily, and 2 - Cuz I was the president! And I'm just plain awesomeSmile.

My "favorite" part was at the million man march with the anti-Bush and anti-war rally going on. Yes, that's a great idea. Talk bad about him right in his back yard. That made me really angry and frustrated. If people don't like the country, why are they here? But that's just me...I prefer to live somewhere that I like and a place that I believe in.

Support President Bush, support the United States, and most of all, GO NAVY!

Nah, its not as easy as just pack your bags and just leave bud. But I do know for sure you were being sarcastic so everything is cool.

Best group was definatedly Hopper Group. Our FA was the best and our group was awsome (mostly because I was there)

lol looks like we're going to have to all get together and fight for the best group as well as the best branch of the armed forces, which would be pointless because obviously Lily and the US Navy would win, respectively.

I know it's not easy to just "pack up your bags and go", but if you're just going to stay in the country to complain and hinder the progress of the nation, then what is the point of staying?

I stayed as far away from the march as possible and spent time admiring the aeronautical wonders in the Air&Space Museum. I thought it showed just how hypocritical that march was when I heard the stories of the kids who went in and got called racist when they wouldn't give money. And were told "It's ok that you're white. You can march too."

Some speeches were too radical for my taste, but I did prefer to spend time at the rally than at the museums. The museums will always be there, but not the march which was a good experience.

I don't know whose speeches you were talking about, whether the ones we got or the ones at the March. But speaking of speeches anyways, Frances Townsend was hands-down, the best speaker we had. She was so passionate about her position and so knowledgeable. I also really enjoyed Gen. Conway. He was very inspriational. Finally, the defense panel rocked my socks. But did anyone else think it was a coincidence that 2 of the men on the panel had the last name of Hughes?

I thought the Gen. Conway speech was total war propaganda and the Townsend speech as well. She just talked about her family and how nice the President is...
btw, when she answered my question she added that she didn't want the federal govt to tell her what to do in times of crisis...I almost laughed at her.
What in the World is she thinking? that every individual must struggle to find their own shelter and evacuation routes instead of having the govt do the organizing for the sake of saving more lives and organizing better??
Now I know why the Katrina response was how it was.

btw, Diplomacy panel was very good.

okay, a few things to add to this conversation. number one: GO NAVY!!!!. Number two, Ms. Townsend was a phenomenal speaker, and it's not just because she's from Brooklyn (NYC, represent!) and number 3, i miss you all, it was an awesome time, so lets not bicker over whose group was better, who had the better FA, or whose last name is Hughes. We should all be making fun of the next three weeks of the forum, because we know they wont be having as much fun as October 11-16!! d@mn right

Amen to that...if you really think about it, they'll have all the same speakers and experiences so the speakers will just be getting bored of hearing themselves talk and they'll start jabbering in monotone. In conclusion, 11-16 October 2005 was by far the best session in the history of NYLF DID Na-na And I absolutely love your view on the Navy Wink

Not only will the speakers be tired of speaking, but the FAs will also be tired of children. I mean, one week with having to handle 22 kids 24/7 is pretty bad, but 4 consecutive weeks? They're gonna get stale, frustrated, and have just general animosity. So Brian, you're right, we definitely were the best. We got 'em when they were fresh. We got to "break them in," so to speak.

Yes, that's true. I never even thought about them. But in terms of the advisors, it could go either way. The second week might be better in terms of how the advisors are because they learn from their mistakes in the first week. However, by the time the third and fourth weeks roll around, then they will get entirely bored and hostile toward anything that moves.

HAHA. Nice. That was great. But I think that they will get a little uptight. Or they'll figure out all the ways that the previous kids broke the rules and prevent it.
So today was my first day back at school and people either didn't notice that I'd been gone (how is that even possible?!) or they thought I was deathly ill. And a few people just thought I was on vacation in the Caribbean or something because they were like "Where's your tan?!" I've also been trying to get some of my work from my teachers, but they're all being stupid and don't really know what work they have to give me. So I have a bunch of zeros, but no replacement work. UGH.
