Wow that's really bad. My teachers have cooperated for the most part and given me a decent amount of time to do the work. I am still very congested with the work though, but at least they're working with me on it.

Most people noticed I was gone, but they knew where I was for the most part because I was on AIM the entire time I was at the forum with my laptop at the hotel. But, I still had the questions about where I was. And my mother made a comment that I looked like I got some sun, so I did tan a little bit from walking around the capitol.

So, in conclusion, GO NAVY! Wink

Yes, the hotel does have a weak wifi signal. The phones are not enabled for outgoing calls, so you can't use dialup. The best you can do if you have a really bad signal is use an empty pringles can. I bought one from the gift shop downstairs, not for the chips, but just for the amplification.

I would definitely recommend bringing your wifi enabled laptop because it makes life so much easier: for research, communications, and leasure.

Just put it in front of your wireless NIC (network interface card) on its side with the bottom of the can touching the card and the open part of the can aiming toward the center of the hotel (where the access point probably is). You might not even need it, but the pringles can does work a little bit to enhance the signal.

Brian, I really must say, you obviously have too much useless time on your hands if you figure out how to enhance a wifi signal using a pringles can. I don't know whether to say that's ingenious or really dorky. Either way, go Air Force.

You should definitely know if you have a wireless access card. If you have it, it will surely be in your connection options (Control Panel>Network Connections). Otherwise, you can either have one installed or buy one that sticks out of your expansion slot. See here for a card that costs around $23.

And Caroline: It's common knowledge for me and my "people" lol. I am definitely a computer geek and it's just one of the tricks of the trade I guess. There's plenty more!

And I thought I was a computer geek. But then again, I'm not quite acquainted with laptops. I'm happy as a clam running the machine that I got for my 14th birthday. My parents won't buy me another one unless I end up going to a civilian college. Because if I'm at USAFA next year, I'll be issued a laptop. Go Falcons.

I truly have no good response, because I actually like the Navy. All my witty, clever remarks are saved for Army and Marines. And I've heard the Chair Force one before. Heard the Air Farce one before. It's all been done. But I've got one phrase for you, kid, that I know you'll agree with: Peace through superior firepower.

ah, such healthy competition between the armed services. (GO NAVY!) which reminds me of a cadence i learned at mini boot camp "we aint the army, the backpackin army. we aint the coast guard, they dont even work hard. we aint the air force, theyre on the golf course. we aint the marines, they dont even look mean. we are the navy, the mighty, mighty navy. oo-rah!"

OK, more a reply to the first post rather than more recent replies, but this still applies...

It's like this for every NYLF program...fortunately and unfortunately, I suppose. My best suggestion is don't let it end. Just because you won't see those people every day ever again doesn't mean they're not part of your life anymore. As you can see from my member title, I've been quite involved with NYLF. I hated leaving in 2003, I hated leaving even more in 2004. Last summer I was almost getting used to it, but it's still hard. But I've made dozens of friends through NYLF that I talk to all the time online. These message boards were created over three years ago by some Tech alums who were going through the same thing you guys are now. The online community grew, and NYLF saw how important keeping alumni around was.

So my advice? Get involved. Stay connected to these people however you can. If you have the chance to see them again, go for it, whether that's at another NYLF program or on a road trip arranged separately. There's some great people here, and it's not worth giving up at the end of the Forum.

Oh, and Brian, you'd fit right in at Tech. Wink Way to go with that Pringles can. Razz

You said it SO right! I never would have imagined that I was going to have a hard time leaving. I mean dont you think that we all would have been excited to go home and sleep later than 6:00am?! Not me anyway! I was so sad to leave especially knowing that I would probably never see any of you guys again! That was definately the worst part of the forum. You get so close to everyone and then you have to leave. But as long as we all stay in touch and promise not to foget eachother we should be okay! But i totally understand how you miss everyone! I was already talking to everyone as soon as I got off the plane telling them how much i miss them!
