2005 Fall DID Attendee![]() |
There's already a politics section, but it doesnt involve politics, so here's a discussion where we can actually discuss stuff. I know there's a politics section for all NYLF attendees, but frankly, i dont care what kids from Tech and Medicine have to say. I'd rather get an idea of what DID people think, preferrably the Oct. 11-16 attendees, but everyone is welcome. So, i guess i'll start it off. Does anyone else think that President Bush was a too slow and lax responding to the New Orleans crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? I mean, i know he was on vacation, but that's no excuse to stop running a country.

lol... ok how bout this...
Whats everyone's view on the US taking steps to a more socialistic type government? Not complete socialism, but having more socialistic aspects (like some European countries). "It's the Beast! The Anti-Flag, come to live among us and rule us for seven years! The end is nigh!"-RvB |

i agree. & isn't it weird that Bush has taken more vacation in a term & a half than Reagan took in two terms..I'm not sure if it's more than Clinton, but I bet so. Yea I think that we could have aided quicker, but thne again some of the people in New Orleans were not even helping themselves. I'm not saying that their state is their own fault by any means, but some of the people are not helping the situation. I donno, thats just my opinion. No offense to anyone.

U.S.A. Taking Socialistic steps????? We are moving away from anything being owned by the Government. Everything is being privatized. We do not have universal healthcare, good public transportation, and our public school system is unequal and in shatters. I only wish people in this Country realized that moving torward more neo-liberalism is the wrong way. (-3.88 ; 2.46) |

I think I interpreted your question wrong.
Yes, I think the USA should nationalize various parts of our economy. We should have superb Universal healthcare, equal and collective public school system, free public transportation, and strong social security. Right now, Europe, unfortunatedly, is moving more to the right as well. For example, the Social democrats in Germany. (-3.88 ; 2.46) |

trust me socialism is not a good idea. I lived 2 years in England and let me tell you universal healthcare is awful. the waiting lists are absolutely crazy. for example i had a friend mess up her knee and she went on a waiting list 6 months long just to get it looked at. so what happens is everyone that can afford it goes to private doctors anyway and if you have universal healthcare taxes go up in england it's 17.5% and when it's universal you can't really complain if a doctor is awful and maybe leaves stuff in you after a surgery. that happened there but the patient couldn't sue now to me that's crazy and the whole universal healthcare really doesn't work

There are gaps and ALOT of abuse in the system. I am not glorifying the NHS, but believe me, that is better than nothing. Both systems have their gaps and faults, but having universal healthcare is still better than this neo-liberalist hospital corporations we have in the USA. I do not think the NHS is awful. Now everybody has dental care, which was a big problem before the NHS, and was the clearest way to distinguish between the rich and the poor. There is alot of bureocracy in both systems, it can be further perfected. I think the NHS is the worst example of Governmental sponsored healthcare. The one's in other countries, such as Spain or Canada, are much better & efficient. (-3.88 ; 2.46) |

And yet, it's still a stereotype that the English have bad teeth. Maybe it's from eating all the bangers and mash and toad in the hole (which I must say, are all disgusting excuses for food).
