Idaho is probably known for mormons. Oh, and BSU and the Fiesta Bowl and all that. That was pretty intense. I love the BSU marching band. They're amazing. Really, amazing.

Reply to Megan B.
When my brother was born, he had alot of problems and had to be sent to Egleston (aka Children's Healthcare of ATL). He was there for the first 7 weeks of his life. There was a bunch of doctors that did a bunch of surgeries on him. He had a feeding tube in his nose, then in his belly. He was 3 before he learned how to eat. Until then, I had always wanted to teach. But one day in middle school, we had to dress up for career day and I went as a paramedic, which is what my daddy is. Over the years,as I learned more about the stuff my brother went through and was able to comprehend it, I started researching. I began to love medicine, I already loved children, and the money is just a plus. As for Egleston, one of the reasons for it is I have grown to love that part of ATL. My brother and a cousin have been up there and I've been to Emory Hospital so many times, that I've just grown to love that area. (Actually, the day we leave I don't get to leave right away b/c I have a doc. appt. at Emory.) I guess just being around the hospitals so much has gotten me excited about wanting to help other ppl, esp. children. Hope that answers your q. And I'd be glad to tell you about why I go to the doc at Emory. I've had ppl tell me that it's actually an interesting story. ttyl The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. -Eleanor Roosevelt |

Welcome everyone that's new, I'm Danielle.
Kileen-Your a band nerd too! You said it all... band, band, and more band...that's my life (at least during marching season). So are you a DCI fan. My personal favorite is the Blue Devils, but I'm also a Phantom Regiment and Caviliers fan. What instrument do you play? "Do not lose hold of your dreams and aspirations. Danielle and Mandapanda: I play lots of instruments. I started on clarinet, did front ensemble for marching band this year, then I learned sax and french horn because you can't make me go back to clarinet this year. But now I'm learning bassoon. Just let me say, bassoon is awesome.
Kaitlyn: I did jazz for 2 years and tap for half a year. I'd have kept going, but I couldn't afford it. "Never in the field of human battle has so much been owed by so many to so few." ~Sir Winston Churchhill |

Megan B.:
In April 2005, I was treated for a swollen lymph node. It stayed swollen for several months. A few months later, I went to an allergist b/c I have bad allergies. He noticed it and informed me that it wasn't a swol. lymph node but he didn't know what it was. I was tested for TB-didn't have it. Went to an ENT, had scans and blood work done. What I had was so rare, that the ENT had to look it up in a book. I had a tumor- corotid body tumor aka paraganglioma. We discovered it is caused by heredity. The ENT told me I would have to see a more specialized doctor. I ended up going to ATL 4 times and Nashville, TN once to see doctors. This was over a period of 4 months and being a teenager in HS didn't help anything. It stressed me out. The risks involved scared me. I could lose my voice, have a seizure, anything. When you're a singer, losing your voice isn't an option. One night I was at church down at the altar praying, and I got a peace. I felt like God had told me everything was going to be ok. I didn't worry about it from then on. I still had a ways to go, but I was going to be ok eventually. I was supposed to have an embalism the day before the surgery to block the blood going to the tumor. Turned out they couldn't do that b/c the vessel feeding the tomor was my main artery. They did the surgery the next day Dec.1. It took about 5 hours. The doctors had to take out my internal & external corotid arteries and replace them with part of vein from my leg. I was in the hospital for 6 days total. I couldn't walk or talk good. The docs told me it could be weeks or months before my voice would get back to normal and I could sing again. I was singing w/in a month. I was able to go back to school after the holidays. I still have to see the doc at Emory every six months b/c they have to make sure the vein is doing ok, that it's not closing or anything. I'm doing ok other than that, besides the fact that I'm still a little numb around the incision. As for my brother, he had his last surgery a few weeks before everything started with me. It was to close the hole where the feeding tube was in his stomach. (It was rare in the first place that it had even started leaking.)Leave it to my family to be different. ttyl The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. -Eleanor Roosevelt |
