How much free time do we actually get?

And also I hear there is a Going-Away dance or something? Is there a dress code for that?

Yeah, that was my same question!
I talked to some people that attended the Philly one last year and apparently they said that you might have classes in the evening and have "social events" but their is some down time, probably only a couple of hours a day at most, though. They seemed to enjoy it though!

There is a semi-formal dance on the last night. Girls wear Homecoming dresses and guys wear a shirt and tie. Some days you'll have more free time, others will be jam-packed. There's usually 1-2 hours for lunch and dinner.

I think we are supposed to wear a short formal dress..sort of like a homecoming dress? I also heard a spring dress could work also!

people wore everything from homecoming dresses to spring dresses it really doesnt matter. And most days we only had freetime during socials but most people didnt go to those and just hung out. The day you go on your hospital visits, if your hospital is close to the campus you get back earlier than everyone else. I had like Four free hours that day i think

Oh that's great.
What do you get to do exactly in our free time?
Can we roam the halls?
Can we play games in another dorm room or do we have to stay in our rooms if we don't go to the social things?
And should we bring things to keep us entertained, I mean Ipod of course, but should we bring anything else?
(Sorry a lot of questions)

you can do anything you want in your free time, except leave the forum. when i went we didnt go to a couple of the socials and instead went to one of the lounges in our dorms and ordered pizza and watched movies(i brought a portable dvd player and movies) some other people in my group played pool and basketball, and some just walked around the college. I would bring an ipod and like i said above, the portable dvd player really helped my group bond!

Well I am back from session in ATL
you really dont get that much freetime, your busy MOST of the time.
In ATL we went to the Mall of Georgia for 4 hours, and there is also the Emory Bookstore where you can buy certain things, like clothes and medicine

There is essentially no free time. During free time, you're so tired that you really don't want to do anything except take a nap.

We had free time? Was that between the mandatory social hour and the room-check 15 minutes later? I would bring a deck of card to pass the time when you are stuck in a med session or something, other than that - SLEEP!!!!! You will need it

Yeah it was awful1 It almost completely ruined the trip because you were always really tired and stuffed in crowded places so everyone got the swine flu as well. Boston is way too strict, I ended up wishing I had never gone.

It was a little of everything. First, somebody that was in my roommates group came with the swine flu and I ended up getting sick. But, even if you just needed to sleep it off you weren't allowed in your room except during the night. You had to sit in the forum's office and have them work around you. The socials were mandatory and they had staff blocking every exit so we couldn't sneak up, no matter how much we tried. My school had gone more in depth about the med proffesion, I have been inside a cadever lab, not just a virtual tour, and been in the observatory room above the surgery while a heart surgery was taking place. We have already done suturing bananas and blood pressure readings in middle school. I was exhausted and sick and basically felt like I wasted 2 weeks of my summer and a lot of my families money. I know most people got a lot out of it, but they should tell you more about it before you go, I would never have gone.
Besides, I could have saved the plane tickets and gone to Philly, but this was the only way I was going to see Harvard, and the randomly assigned us to groups of where to go and we couldn't switch. That really P.o.ed me. Frown
I know that I am basically ranting and complaining, but it was basically 4 thousand dollars with all of the clothes, transportation, lunches, everything. I could have gone to governers school instead and I gave that up for this?

I ended up with Swine Flu too!, I was assigned to Harvard, its not that special... The clothing hassle, and transportation really was annoying, i enjoyed me but it was not worth the effort of arguining with parents over a 10 day trip that really drags you down, you dont get much sleep or freedom, i had no privacy becuase of my roomate and her friends and the scheduals are just crazy...
