Here are our best recommendations:

  • Ask an adult who can actually see the item. It's very hard to make a judgement call based on a written description.
  • If you're not sure, don't bring it
  • If you decide to bring it to see if it works, bring something else as a back up.
  • NYLF will not comment on any pictures of items. You can ask for the opinions of others attending, or alumni, and we recommend that you do! But please do not call the Admissions Office asking opinion of the staff.

    Thank you.
    ________________________________

    NYLF/MED has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a result of the high standard of professionalism our students exemplify. To ensure that this standard is maintained, all students are expected to exercise professional discretion and sound judgement in personal appearance and habits, and maintain a professional image at the Forum. We anticipate that during the Forum there will be:
    a) six times when you must be dressed in professional attire;

    b) three to four times when you may be dressed in relaxed professional attire;

    c) one time when you must wear semi-formal or professional attire for the closing dinner dance;

    d) and numerous times for casual dress.

    We recommend you check the weather in your city before packing and please be aware that almost all facilities are air-conditioned.

    Professional Attire for Women:

  • Dresses with a jacket, suits (either skirts or pants) or skirts with a blouse or sweater and jacket (skirts and dresses must be knee length or longer)
  • At least one pair of comfortable dress shoes that are flat, closed-toe, closed-heel and rubber-soled
  • NO halter/tank tops, spaghetti straps, midriff-bearing tops, low or see-through blouses.
  • NO spandex, leggings, leather, shorts, shorts designed to look like skirts, jeans or denim outfits.
  • NO athletic sandals, Birkenstocks, athletic shoes or flip-flops (The Forum requires a lot of walking; therefore, we recommend comfortable, flat, functional shoes. Heels are not recommended. Most hospitals require closed-toe, closed-heel, rubber-soled shoes.)

    [For a complete list of professional attire "Don'ts," click here.]

    Relaxed Professional Attire for Women:

  • Slacks, dresses, skirts, blouses or sweaters
  • Loafers or non-athletic sandals
  • Skirts and dresses must be knee-length or longer
  • NO midriff-bearing tops, halter/tank tops, spaghetti straps, low-cut or see-through blouses
  • NO Birkenstocks, athletic shoes or flip-flops

    Casual Attire for Women:

  • Jeans, shorts, T-shirts and halter/tank tops but must be neat in appearance. Clothes should reflect dress appropriate for most high schools, including dress/skirt/shorts length. Footwear may include Birkenstocks, athletic shoes and flip-flops.
