I was just browsing through this message board and noticed a lot of people had questions about getting tested for TB. Would it be a good idea for me to get a TB test before I enroll online? My mom and dad have TB because they were with my grandparents too long and they didn't know they had TB. But it hasn't activated in their lungs yet, but it's there. I probably don't have it because I don't visit my grandparents often, but if I get tested and find out I do have it, how badly would it affect my trip? I am planning to go to the Houston one. I don't know what the hospital choices are for that area so I'm not sure if there will be a hospital that I can go to if I don't get tested/have TB.

I want to enroll this weekend because I have time, but I'm just not sure if I should or shouldn't get tested before enrolling. Should I get it anyway sometime before the trip so I can have a more free choice of hospitals? I am so scared of needles. Frown

I just got mine two days ago. I'm pretty sure it is required. I hate getting shots, but it doesn't hurt. You don't really feel it if you ask me. And then, two to three days afterwards the doctor will check and see if you have a bubble. Then you are done. Smile

There are as many areas to train a dog in as there are methods.
If a can or bag is labeled as meeting AAFCO standards, all that means is that animals dont DIE when fed only that food for six months and dont lose more than 15 percent of body weight.
Hopefully ADIPet will wake up and admit that they also have a problem.

That is true, you have to have a TB skin test to visit the hospitals through NYLF. It really isn't bad i have had it twice before, since I volunteer at my local hospital. All it really is, is a very small needle that they stick the your forearm and inject some stuff. It makes a little bubble underneath your skin for a while. After two days you go back and they read it. The area will become a little red and then do away, the bubble will go down. Really no big deal at all, it only takes a few minutes or less.

the bubble is kinda gross >.<
but you HAVE to get it to avoid the potential spread of it through a hospital.

the test isn't bad. I got mine 2 days ago. I almost tested positive tho! 0_0. it was slightly raised and bumpy, but they put it down as neg. It might have been an allergic reaction. haha. It would be a good idea tho.

I have been trying very hard to quick smoking. I learned that I have to have realistic expectations - quitting isn't easy, but it's not impossible either. More than 3 million Americans quit every year.

Understand that withdrawal symptoms are TEMPORARY. They usually last only 1-2 weeks.

Know that most relapses occur in the first week after quitting, when withdrawal symptoms are strongest and your body is still dependent on nicotine. Be aware that this will be your hardest time, and use all your personal resources - willpower, family, friends, and the tips in this booklet - to get you through this critical period successfully.
Know that most other relapses occur in the first 3 months after quitting, with situational triggers - such as a particularly stressful event - occur unexpectedly. These are the times when people reach for cigarettes automatically, because they associate smoking with relaxing. This is the kind of situation that's hard to prepare yourself for until it happens, so it's especially important to recognize it if it does happen. Remember that smoking is a habit, but a habit you can break.

Realize that most successful ex-smokers quit for good only after several attempts. You may be one of those who can quit your first try. But if you're not, DON'T GIVE UP. Try again.
