I read that you should pack 10-12 dollars per day for lunch... that's really expensive. >_> Instead of buying their lunch, are we allowed to just eat some snacks we pack from home and maybe also bring a container to save some stuff from breakfast to eat for lunch? Also about the breakfast, is it a buffet or what?

I think that would be smart and i doubt they would have a problem with it, but you have to remember that you are there for 10 days or so.
The food you bring would have to last.
As for their meals, I'm not sure. They could be but from experience of visiting colleges and universities i doubt they will be buffet. They will probably be a fixed amount. . .

Hope that helps

If anyone here went to the first session at Houston, how did they do the lunch? Could you choose what you wanted to buy, or was it a fixed price (like $10) for a meal? Also, I looked at the schedule and it seems like they do the lunch in the "Courtyard" most of the time. Is this some place in the hotel?

bringing snacks for lunch is fine. A lot of people didn't even eat lunch since dinner is so close to lunch. In LA there was a buffet for breakfast and dinner. At most colleges they do have buffets

lunch isn't as expensive sometimes it really depends on what you buy one day i just bought snacks at the local campus stores and ate it there and I'm sure if you want you can just bring snacks and eat it for lunch.

breakfast is just several different things to choose from and you pick what you want.. its sort of like a buffet.
and for lunch/dinner on your own you can spend as little or as much as you'd like, they let you eat where you want.

at LA breakfast and dinner are really early. dinner start at around 5 and ends around 6~6:15, so you don't really have to eat lunch if you don't want to. you can also take out a little food from the de neve restaurant too. and the $10~12 is just tops. for example, when we went to visit the USC medical campus, we ate lunch there and it's quite expensive there. also, we went to universal and santa monica on the weekend and ate at restaurant. that's quite expensive too. so it all depends on where you want to eat.

At Boston I only paid for lunch twice because I brought so much food from home that there was no need for me to even by lunch. I had apple sauce, rice cakes, and oreos all in my room which was great =)) All meals were buffet style (expect lunch)

Not sure about bringing things but as for lunch at Philly last year you could buy really cheap stuff. And as for breakfast and dinner it was just like a cafeteria situation but with ALOT more options.
